Former Buccaneer Files Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
Former Bucs defensive lineman Warren Sapp has recently filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Florida, reporting over $6.7 million in debt and $6.45 million in assets, according to TMZ.com. The future football Hall of Famer reportedly owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in child support payments, almost $1 million to the IRS and $2,858 in medical bills.
Sapp, who currently works for the NFL Network as an analyst after playing in the league for 13 seasons with the Buccaneers and the Raiders, reports his annual salary with the network at $540,000. He is, however, unsure if the network is planning on renewing his contract.
In an article by Pierre Ducharme writing for the Tampa Bay Times, Sapp includes among his assets: 240 pairs (!) of [Michael] Jordan sneakers and sandals, Nike golf clubs and a boxing glove signed by the legendary Muhammad Ali.
In his bankruptcy filing Sapp surprisingly claims that he lost both his 2002 Super Bowl ring from the championship with the Bucs and his 1991 National Championship ring from the University of Miami.
