Fair is Fair
As we reported in a March 9 blog on the Jacoby Meyers Bankruptcy Law website, the Virginia State Fair/VSFA Inc. has declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Following that bankruptcy filing, Memphis, Tennessee-based Universal Fairs owner, Mark Lovell, has approached Richmond International Raceway (RIR) about holding the fair at the RIR complex in the fall, reports Richmond BizSense.com. Lovell has reportedly applied to Henrico County for permits necessary to hold the fair at that venue.
In an article from the Richmond Times Dispatch by John Hoke, Lovell may also bid for the 331-acre Meadow Event Park; the Virginia State Fair was held at that venue when it moved from the Richmond International Raceway in 2009. An auction of the property as well as the fair’s name and other assets is upcoming.
Universal Fairs has staged fairs, expositions and festivals in Memphis; Mississippi; Seattle, Washington and other localities. The company has also recently taken over the financially troubled Georgia State Fair.
