Forty-Year-Old Houston Restaurant Files Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Vargo's Restaurant, a Houston institution for more than four decades, has closed its doors for good. The restaurant’s ownership, TTC Plaza Ltd., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last November and converted to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy last month. The eatery, which was most recently owned by David and Mary Wu, was founded by Al Vargo in 1965. Building Materials Firm Files Chapter 7 Bankruptcy after 66 Years

Fred Hill Materials, a 66-year-old concrete materials company in Washington State, has closed, having been petitioned to switch from a Chapter 11 bankruptcy to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The business first experienced financial troubles in 2009 and sold its sand and gravel mining operation at Shine Pit to another company, Miles Sand and Gravel. The company had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2010 and remained open while it restructured its finances. Forms filed at the time of the original bankruptcy showed that the change in ownership allowed the company to reduce its debt and focus on its “core business” as a concrete supplier. Unfortunately, the company was unable to comply with the Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan and, in March 2011, the U.S. Government and Western Conference Teamsters Pension Trust petitioned the court to convert the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy to Chapter 7.
